Info/Program note:
A short piece written for ensemble Klang’s Principles of Concision series; a series in which they ask composers to provide short ‘signatures of their musical identity’ - a particularly salient request in the case of a composer who generally needs, and takes, his time. Nonetheless, three pieces were written, which could be performed in less than 90” – but were eventually recorded at a little over 5’.
The work takes its title from Marcel Duchamp’s famous painting and, like its example, gradually ‘freezes’ the motion of the figure as it seems to continually descend down the stairs.
